Biography and Interests

Tony graduated in 2004 with a BSc (Honours) degree in Environmental & Behavioural Biology from the University of St. Andrews. This was followed by a PhD at the Division of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology (DEEB), University of Glasgow investigating ‘Hormonally Mediated Maternal Effects in Birds’, which was completed in 2009. Tony then decided to focus on human health and joined the unit on a Career Development Fellowship in 2010 as part of the Social Patterning of Health over the Lifecourse programme working on data gathered from the West of Scotland Twenty-07 Study. His primary research is focused on investigating the biological pathways that may help explain observed social inequalities in health over the lifecourse. This work currently includes investigating the effects of socioeconomic status on biological ageing and cumulative physiological burden (see Biological Pathways and Health for more details).
