Biography and Interests
Yingying obtained her BSc in Medicine from Shanghai Medical University. She then worked in the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at Shanghai Hua-Dong Hospital for 5 years. In 2000, she came to the UK to undertake an MSc in Health Information Science for Health Service Management at the University of Warwick. After her graduation, she successfully obtained a CSO PhD Studentship in the Department of General Practice & Primary Care at the University of Glasgow, studying GPs who practise single-handedly in urban areas of Scotland under the supervision of Professor Catherine O’Donnell and Professor Graham Watt. While writing up her PhD these in 2007, Yingying also worked as a Research Assistant with Professor Catherine O’Donnell in an evaluation project, assessing the impact of a community-based health improvement programme on populations’ health. In 2010, Yingying joined the unit on a Career Development Fellowship as part of the Gender and Health team working with Professor Kate Hunt to examine the gender differences in consultation pattern in general practice using data from General Practice Research Database.
Yingying’s research interests include gender inequality in health (access to services and the use of services); socio-economic inequality in health; measurement of socio-economic deprivation (at an individual level and an aggregated level i.e. an area or a practice); the impact of practice characteristics such as practice size and the composition of staff on the delivery of services.
