Biography and Interests

Maria obtained her BSc. (Hons) in Nutrition from Kings College, University of London and is a Registered Public Health Nutritionist. She has worked at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Institute of Psychiatry and the Dept. Social Medicine, University of Bristol where she completed her PhD in Nutritional Epidemiology in 2000.

Maria joined the SPHSU Ethnicity and Health programme in 2001. Her interests are health inequalities and nutrition and health throughout the lifecourse. Her current work includes developing interventions to reduce obesity and sedentary behaviour among minority ethnic children, examining ethnic differences in associations between family type, family process and psychological well-being in adolescence, and neighbourhood influences on mental health and health behaviours.
