Biography and Interests

David has studied in Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol and London, and has worked in London, Copenhagen, Recife (Brazil) and Sydney.  The focus of his research is to understand how psychological, biological, behavioural and social factors from across the life course, and between generations, influence the risk of important chronic disease in adulthood such as cardiovascular disease, selected cancers, and mental illness.  The ultimate aim of this body of research is disease prevention.  He is a Wellcome Trust Fellow; Senior Lecturer in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, University College London; Visiting Professor at the University of Glasgow; and Honorary Professor at the University of Edinburgh Centre for Cognitive Ageing and Cognitive Epidemiology where he is also a Programme Leader (Cognitive Epidemiology). David teaches on undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the UK and abroad. He left the Unit in July 2010 but is continuing to collaborate with Unit staff on several projects.
